Ambassadors Program for WM Turkic UG
Our main goal is to provide perspective and feedback on the Movement Charter for the MCDC from the Turkic-speaking region and affiliates. Given that the region was not actively involved in developing recommendations for movement, it is important for us to provide at least ideas for the WMF from the communities and contributors of the region at the stage of implementation of the recommendations. Thus, the committees working on the implantation of the recommendations, and specifically in this case, the MCDC team, will be able to get opinions, ideas, and feedback from the region, and the representatives of the region themselves will be able to learn more about the process and implement it more actively locally. Through online and in-person meetings and various activities, we will try to provide our community with more information about processes around the Charter and collect feedback from the community, which we will present to the charter development committee.

Project Goal[edit]

What will be the outputs of your project and how will those outputs contribute to advancing a specific Movement Strategy Initiative

What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here
24. Movement Charter: Our main goal will be to acknowledge our community about the proposed Charter and encourage them to provide feedback. In addition, we will introduce them to the Global Council and the Hubs in part and try to collect feedback from them on these two initiatives as well.

Project Background[edit]

When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
We will start the process in the first half of September with the Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2023 and will complete the process in the first half of November, after the Turkic Wikimedia Conference 2023. The report will be ready max. in 30 days.
Where will your project activities be happening?
  • Online: We will hold online meetings for those parts of the community that cannot participate in in-person meetings. We will try to invite members from the MCDC team.
  • In-person: We will be holding in-person meetings at two regional conferences (Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2023 and Turkic Wikimedia Conference 2023), as well as a series of meetings in Turkey for the Turkish Wikimedia community.
Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
Yes. We are going to cooperate with all the Turkic communities in the region, including Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Uzbek, and others. We want to provide more information and knowledge about the Charter to get their opinions on it. There will be online and in-person meetings with communities to achieve our goals.
What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
We want to eliminate the communication problem between the global movement and the local community. By doing this, we want to involve the local Turkic community in the initiatives of the Movement Strategy, as well as to involve them in the implementation of the recommendation. We will actively work with them to provide them with more information and a platform for discussion and feedback.
Does this project aim to apply one of the examples shared in the call for grants and if so which one?
We will try to provide our community with more information about processes around the Charter and collect feedback from the community.

Additional information[edit]

If your activities include community discussions, what is your plan for ensuring that the conversations are productive? Provide a link to a Friendly Space Policy or UCoC that will be implemented to support these discussions.
The Coordinators and facilitators will actively monitor the discussion, take notes during the discussion and meetings, and set the right direction for the meetings so that everyone can focus on the right topic of discussion. We will use UCOC and FSP from the WMF, which you can find on the foundation wiki.
If your activities include the use of paid online tools, please describe what tools these are and how you intend to use them.
We will use the Zoom platform for online meetings, which provides users with many convenient features for an effective meeting.
Do your activities include the translation of materials, and if so, in what languages will the translation be done? Please include details of those responsible for making the translations.
Basically, two languages are used in our region, these are Turkish and Russian. We will ensure that all the necessary documents and materials are translated into these languages. Members of our communities led by Mehman will work on the translations.
Are there any other details you would like to share? Consider providing rationale, research or community discussion outputs, and any other similar information, that will give more context on your proposed project.
Nope.

Outcomes[edit]

After your activities are complete, we would like to understand the draft implementation plan for your community. You will be required to prepare a document detailing this plan around a movement strategy initiative. This report can be prepared through Meta-wiki using the Share your results button on this page. The report can be prepared in your language, and is not required to be written in English.

In this report, you will be asked to:

  • Provide a link to the draft implementation plan document or Wikimedia page
  • Describe what activities supported the development of the plan
  • Describe how and where you have communicated your plan to relevant communities.
  • Report on how your funding was spent

Your draft implementation plan document should address the following questions clearly:

  • What movement strategy initiative or goal are you addressing?
  • What activities will you be doing to address that initiative?
  • What do you expect will happen as a result of your activities? How do those outcomes address the movement strategy initiative?
  • How will you measure or evaluate your activities? What tools or methods will you use to evaluate your activities?

To create a draft implementation plan, we recommend the use of a logic model, which will help you and your team think about goals, activities, outcomes, and other factors in an organized way. Please refer the following resources to develop a logic model:

Please confirm below that you will be able to prepare a draft implementation plan document by the end of your grant:

  • I confirm.

Optionally, you are welcome to include other information you'd like to share around participation and representation in your activities. Please include any additional outcomes you would like to report on below:

  • Strong support Strong support I have been working on the translation of MC, MCDC and other related pages from English to Turkish on Meta-Wiki for a while, independently of this project. There is a serious lack of feedback from Turkish-speaking communities regarding these and similar global issues. In order to eliminate this deficiency, it is necessary to inform the community on relevant issues. For this reason, I believe that it is very necessary to provide effective translation support in order to provide information at the best level. In this respect, I think that this project will mark a very important point for our community and will help to find a solution. For these reasons, I strongly support the project. I also declare that I am ready to do my best to help responsible users. Thank you, --justinianus | talk 19:45, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
