Українська: Кілька цікавинок про цих дивовижних птахів.
  • Гнізда бджолоїдка влаштовує в норах, у високих (3—5 м) урвищах, на кар’єрах, поблизу сільських угідь, де є значна кількість комах.
  • Бджолоїдки живуть сімейними зграйками, що складаються з подружніх пар та "холостяків".
  • Бджолоїдки утворюють подружні пари на все життя. У сезон розмноження до подружжя зазвичай приєднується молодий самотній птах, який допомагає їм будувати гніздо і виходжувати пташенят.
  • Гнізда бджолоїдка влаштовує в норах або високих урвищах. Під час риття нори й гніздової камери бджолоїдки викидають 7-12 кг ґрунту.
  • Назва птаха * бджолоїдка, проте бджоли складають лише частину раціону. Бджолоїдки харчуються різними комахами, зокрема бабками, кониками та термітами. Бджоли, що трапляються в їх раціоні, переважно старі та хворі. Окрім того, бджолоїдки знищують чимало природніх ворогів бджіл. Через помилкові уявлення про "шкідливість" птаха їх вбивають пасічники та мисливці * відстрілюють бджолоїдок, палять та мурують гнізда. Хоча відлітають щурки від гнізда недалеко * до 600 м. Якщо поставити пасіку на відстані близько одного кілометра від урвища, де знаходяться гнізда, пасіці нічого не загрожуватиме. Підвищення обізнаності про цей вид птахів, контроль колоній на державному рівні допоможуть підвищити захист популяції бджолоїдок.
English: A few interesting facts about these amazing birds.
  • The bee-eater arranges its nests in burrows, in high (3-5 m) cliffs, in quarries, near farmland, where there is a significant number of insects.
  • The European bee-eaters are living in family flocks consisting of married couples and "bachelors".
  • The European bee-eaters form married pairs for life. During the breeding season, a young single bird usually joins the couple to help them build a nest and raise their chicks.
  • The bee-eater arranges nests in burrows or high cliffs. When digging a hole and nest chamber, bee-eaters throw out 7-12 kg of soil.
  • The name of the bird is bee-eater, but bees make only part of the diet. Bee-eaters feed on various insects, including dragonflies, grasshoppers and termites. The bees that occur in their diet are mostly old and sick. In addition, bee-eaters destroy many natural enemies of bees. Due to misconceptions about the "harmfulness" of the bird, these birds are killed by beekeepers and hunters * they shoot bee-eaters, burn and destroy nests. Raising awareness about this species of birds, control of colonies at the state level will help to improve the protection of the population.
