Poster session/Imagine a world in which every human is a Wikimedian

Wikimedia projects, just like any other wiki, will only grow and improve as long as we have people willing to volunteer own time to contribute. We have lots of competition for our time, so people only invest it onwiki if they develop the feeling of belonging to community, ownership of the project & understanding that this serves their objectives better than spending time doing something comparable elsewhere.

Smart Region is an initiative directed at explaining why contributing onwiki is valuable for all possible Wikimedia stakeholders. It started evolving out of ideas stirred by being exposed to international experience at Wikimania-2017, when I was unexpectedly named as WOTY'2018, and started experiencing:

some peer pressure on behalf Russia's Wikimedians expecting that recognition of my personal contribution should also lead to some lasting effect for the long-deserved wider domestic recognition of the country's Wikimedia community contribution, as well as
that of local non-Wikimedian community in Tatarstan waiting to hear about how Wikimedia projects can actually benefit the region be it in preservation of the regional languages, or otherwise socio-economic development.

The regional level was chosen because of the nature of the task at hand, the size of the task, as well as much lower conflict of interest risks in case of partners to work with. As of today, it received support of the authorities in Tatarstan, as well as wider Russian Federation, caught attention of local Tourism and Cultural heritage circles, with some timid interest of Education and GLAM communities. The poster is to showcase the principles, the directions, some already developed action plans in place, as well as ideas on how and why regional non-dominant languages can be a valuable resource in advancing this (examples of partnering with various Tatar-promotion groups).
