Global rollback for Synoman Barris

Not ending before 3 January 2022 21:13 UTC

Hello everyone, I would like to present myself to the community to volunteer for the role of a global Rollbacker. Firstly, I have been active in fighting cross wiki spam and vandalism in most wikis using the abuse log and SW viewer on almost a daily basis. I have a broad understanding on the use of rollback since am a Rollbacker in three projects. Secondly,I understand that this right will grant me autopatrol in all wikis and therefore I'll only revert clear cut vandalism and spam using it ( it would also be nice to not be stopped by the filters everytime I mark a userpage for spam) I ask the community to evaluate my contributions and trust me enough with this permission not to abuse it but to use it for the good of the projects. Cheers --MeganB... …till the end 21:13, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Global rollback for Dragoniez

Not ending before 26 January 2022 09:26 UTC

I would like to request a global rollback flag. I'm extended confirmed on jawiki and enwiki, and granted a rollback flag on jawiki. I regret to mention that there are a lot of cross-wiki LTAs from the Japanese Wikipedia, e.g. ja:LTA:HEATHROW and ja:LTA:SLIME, and I often check their edits across wikis in reporting their sockpuppets on jawiki (and on other wikis as well). A global rollback flag would make it much easier for me to deal with their vandal edits and allow me to contribute to the community more. For example, SLIME's edits often involve personal attacks (e.g. en:Special:diff/1063297785, a vandal edit on the talk page of Nnh, a jawiki sysop), and HEATHROW even vandalized a Steward's talk page (see simple:Special:diff/7969440) the other day. I'm hoping to ease admins' and Stewards' burdens of dealing with such disruptive edits by my reverting them and reporting the relevant accounts for block/lock, so that users with block rights will only need to consider blocking them or that they won't need to spend energy reverting problematic/offensive edits (especially those on their user pages, which are subject to much more vandalism than a general user's page). Finally, rollback makes it possible to deal with problematic edits much faster than the normal revert, but I carefully consider if a given edit needs to be reverted, as I always do. Thank you for your consideration in advance! --Dragoniez (talk) 09:26, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Requests for global sysop permissions

Global sysop for DejaVu

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 26 January 2022 05:10 UTC

Hello. I am member of global rename team; I often deal with cross-wiki vandals and LTAs, and being able to clean up and block them. I have sysop rights on Persian wikis and am familiar with the toolset and I'll be able to fight vandals quickly. As I am active member of Wikimedia VRT, my main focus would be to deal with LTAs and any other administrative areas as I can, especially when there are no local sysops available.
My main concern for this request is non-Latin problems and I think an admin who knows these languages (Arabic, Persian and Hebrew scripts) is vital for global Admin team.
Thanks for your consideration. Déjà vu 05:10, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Oppose Oppose As per xwiki tool, you're only active on a handful of wikis (only edited on 6 wikis this year). Not what I expect from a GR candidate, let alone a GS candidate. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 05:19, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for BPNK

Hello, here's BPNK from mainland China. For obvious reasons, that is, the Peking government's Internet censorship, I have to access Wikipedia through vpn. When I found some obvious clerical mistakes, I hope to make corrections. I have Wikipedia editing experience, and have obtained the IP block exempt of wiki. Now I hope to obtain the global IP block exempt to participate in Wikipedia editing activities more widely, thanks, --BPNK (talk) 03:21, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Sky Harbor

Hi, folks! I already have IP block exemption flags on a few wikis, including the English and Tagalog Wikipedias and Meta, but I figured I'd request for an IP block exemption globally. In the Philippines, open proxies are very common, and on wikis where I don't have the IP block exemption flag I end up being inadvertently blocked from editing; in fact, I just encountered this on the Spanish Wikipedia earlier today as I was editing an article on the upcoming Philippine presidential election. A global IP block exemption flag would make it so much easier for me to conduct my editing activities without having to worry about the blocks I will inevitably encounter while doing so on the Philippine Internet. --Sky Harbor (talk) 14:33, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Din-nani1

Hello All Administrators, This is Abdul-Rasheed Yussif, User:Din-nani1 from Ghana. I am a Co-Founder of Dagbani Wikimedians User Group. Through hard work we have been given a new language Wikipedia i.e Dagbani Wikipedia. With this, there are a lot of newcomers that still need skills to be able to contribute to Wikimedia projects. I am one of the trainers of such contributors and usually juggle among the various Wikimedia projects in order to help editors to be able gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to contribute to the various projects of Wikimedia, this usually lands me into my IP address being blocked. It is for this reason that I request for Global IP Block exemption.Din-nani1 (talk) 06:57, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Din-nani1, thanks for the message! If you're using a VPN service, I recommend to disable it -- that should make you able to edit freely. If you're not using a VPN, I'd like to ask you to share the IP address you use, so we can investigate the block. If you don't want to do that publicly, you can email stewards(_AT_)wikimedia.org instead (just note the ticket number here [will come in an automated response], so we can follow-up quickly). Thanks! Global IP block exempt for Tamzin

Copying the request I made on my talkpage, now that I've been given the perm locally:

Hello, friends! Due to an electrical issue in my home, I'm currently routing all of my editing through a mobile hotspot on my phone, and am unlucky enough to be using T-Mobile, which often has large ranges blocked. And as it happens, Operator873 just gblocked 2607:FB90:0:0:0:0:0:0/32 (talk contribs WHOIS block user block log guc checkip) for a year. While I can probably get access to other networks to make an edit here and an edit there, or just wait and hope T-Mobile cycles me onto an unblocked range, I was hoping to get short-term global IPBE, since otherwise there's really no guaranteed way to make frequent edits.

I currently run a bot on enwiki, where all bots have bundled IPBE, and in the past have been a sysop (desysopped in good standing) on Wikidata, where all sysops have bundled IPBE, so I'd hope that I'm trusted enough to have this right for a bit. The electricians think they may be able to fix things today or tomorrow, but I'd hate to ask for just 24-48h of IPBE and then be told it'll actually be longer, and have to bother a steward again, so to play it safe I'm requesting global IPBE for 1 week. Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 19:00, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Guxiangli Tongguan

Hello everybody. I am a Chinese student living in Australia. I haven't been able to edit lately because of many blocked IP blocks. Therefore, I would like everyone to exempt me from IP. I need to always mask my IP address for reasons of my personal security and privacy. However, I am unable to make contributions to Wikimedia projects when I am logged in and accessing the Internet via an IP that happens to be blocked. I would greatly appreciate it if I were granted an exemption, so that I may continue to contribute to Wikimedia projects. I do not have any other account on Wikimedia projects.--Guxiangli Tongguan (talk) 03:58, 30 December 2021 (UTC)Guxiangli Tongguan

Yes, Stang. Hi, sometimes I get blocked from editing when using VPN with the reason using an open proxy. I use a VPN when visiting the website that get blocked (i.e. reddit) by government when I need to get the news from there and update Wikipedia articles. It's annoying that I always have to turn off my VPN whenever I want to edit on Wikipedia. I often edit on (id|jv)(wiki|wiktionary), and less on Commons, Old Wikisource, and Wikidata for interlanguage linking. Therefore I need a global IP block exemption, and I promise I will use it carefully and will not abuse it. Thanks!--Guxiangli Tongguan (talk) 07:31, 1 January 2022 (UTC)Guxiangli Tongguan
@Guxiangli Tongguan: You are currently residing in Australia so you shouldn't have any issue accessing Wikipedia without the VPN active. So long as you continue using your account and edit while logged in, your IP information is not public. Please disable your VPN/proxy in order to access Wikipedia. I use OVPN as proxy do avoid being tracked by sites on the Internet. I can't see why this should be prohibited by Wikipedia. Even if it'a a proxy, registered accounts could be allowed (and blocked individually in case of abuse). Turning the proxy off for Wikipedia isn't an option. I usually collect sources on Internet when writing my articles so there is no situation when I only browse Wikipedia./Machatjkala (talk) 10:46, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
@Machatjkala Not done Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, there is the No open proxies policy. Open proxies are often abused by vandals and other malicious actors, and for that reason, they can't be unblocked. I recommend to exempt Wikimedia sites from your OVPN setup. Alternatively, you can request a local exemption at sv.wikipedia (see sv:Wikipedia:Undantagna från IP-blockering for details). Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 09:42, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

If you want, you can email stewards@wikimedia.org (but in that case, please note the ticket number here, which will come in an automated reply, so we can assist you more quickly). Thanks, Martin Urbanec (talk) 09:38, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
When I'm trying to contribute in Wikipedia, then a block alert shows and saying of that block is that I am not permitted to edit or change anything because of my open proxy. It might be for changing my ISP recently. Now I'm using broadband Wi-Fi. That's why my IP address is changed also. Now my IP address is : 103.16.24.112 . It's my Home IP address. So, why I'm globally blocked, I don't know. Therefore, please resolve that issue for me! মোঃ মারুফ হাসান24 (talk) 13:02, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
My global IP address was blocked since last two weeks without a reason. That saved as a big problem for me when I'm trying to edit an English Wikipedia, Dagbani Wikipedia, wikidata and other sister projects. Please kindly revert this decision to pave a way for me to contribute more on Wikimedia. Thanks Achiri Bitamsimli (talk) 11:20, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

@Pk.over: 2FA is an account setting and accounts on Wikimedia sites are global. So, if you enable 2FA on viwiki, it will be enabled automatically across all Wikimedia sites because your account is the same and is just one. For example, the same situation applies to your password or your username, if you change it on viwiki it will be changed on enwiki, commons, wikidata too, because you have only one global account, one username, one password, and one 2FA setting. If you had the permission to activate it when you activate 2FA, you will be able to continue using it even if you lose the permission later. However if you want to disable and re-enable 2FA after you lose the permission, you will need the 2FA global group, which we will be happy to grant (when you do nothave the appropriate user rights elsewhere). — regards, Revi 07:38, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

I have recently been fixing cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities on enwiki (see my XSS patrol page). Some scripts and gadgets that I have found vulnerabilities in are copied to multiple different wikis, and I would like the ability to fix them all at the same time, to avoid letting potential attackers know where vulnerabilities are before they are fixed. An example of where this would be useful is phab:T298481 (currently only accessible to myself and WMF staff security-protected). For some other examples of XSS vulnerabilities I have fixed, see here and here. As you apparently want to access the private filters on enwiki, you should reapply there as mentioned below. Additional, the only production filter you've touched in the last year (s:mr:Special:AbuseFilter/10) seems to be a mess. — xaosflux Talk 01:41, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
    1) To be very Frank, I want to just view the entries catched by filters and not to edit them. And on enwiki I had asked for the same.
    2) the rights were not granted as a result of assumption that I don't need it. And not as a punitive action against me.
    3) all three users who opposed are editors of only enwiki and they don't know anything about crosswiki. Two of three users who opposed have rights and experience of working with filters and one never had any trusted rights or experience. On top of it only is actually active now. It's not new for me. Not surprised when you dont want to understand difference between just view and edit.
I agree global right will also grant me the same on enwiki and I should get it on enwiki first.(though this is not the case for many users and projects.) I can understand why many of you would be always in opposition to users like me.
