Activities Plan for 2022

Brazil

2022

Introduction

This is the annual plan of activities of the Wiki Movement Brazil User Group for the year 2022. Wiki Movement Brazil (WMB) is a user group, based in Brazil, founded in 2013 by active members of the Brazilian community in the Wikimedia projects. Our mission is to provide solutions that increase the number and quality of pertaining reliable information in the Wikimedia projects, planning and executing activities that are in accordance with the scope and principles of the Wikimedia movement. More information is available at the official group's page on Meta.

This document is a reflection of WMB's ambitions to promote lasting, sustainable, and structural impact activities. The organization aims to develop voluntary collaborative practices on the internet in Portuguese, strengthening the sense of community and the visibility of under-represented knowledge; consolidating the scientific culture and open knowledge processes in Brazil, and improving the quality, diversity, and veracity of information available on the internet in Portuguese.

This document is also in accordance with the strategic lines of the WMB ratified by the General Assembly in November 2021, in addition to being in affinity with the growing process of maturity and professionalization of Wikimedia in Brazil. Thus, many of the activities here were strategically designed so that they are not only sustainable but also serve as a basis and support for activities to be developed in 2023 and 2024.

The document 'Activities Plan for 2022' was approved by Wiki Movimento Brasil's General Assembly, on November 1, 2021.

Strategy

Although Brazil is nowadays living in a context of a slowdown in the pandemic, the planning of annual activities is still a challenge and it is necessary for WMB to think and act with prudence and care. WMB acknowledges that the pandemic is still a limiting factor for the execution of many activities, and it may be for an uncertain period of time. Even in this context, over the last two years, the WMB has been able to plan and execute campaigns, events, and other activities in a professional manner and has shown a maturing of its capabilities and internal organization. Considering this context also, the organization’s activities plan below assumes two strategic pillars:

  • the planning of activities that are directly connected to other impact and sustainability documents, plans and strategies developed and approved by the WMB over the past two years,
  • and the confidence that the structure of the current WMB team will be adjusted in a manner consistent with the results produced over the last 2 years.

In the context of the first pillar, in 2021, a one-year collaborative process has begun to adapt the strategic guidelines of the WMB to the guidelines and deliberations of the Movement Strategy 2030. This process is described in a portal on strategy and in the Theory of Change brochure. This entire process of strategic reflection allowed us to develop a plan of activities for 2022 that was in line with the activities to come in the next two years, as well as with our goals for impact and structural change in the medium and long term.

In the context of the second pillar, in turn, it is important to remember that the WMB professional team started its work in 2018, without funding from the Wikimedia Foundation, and was structured from 2020 with support from the WMF. As of 2021, WMB professional staff, including formally registered personnel and service providers, includes 10 people. Detailed reports of the group's activities over the past three years can be read at: for 2019, for 2020 and for 2021.
